Three more alpaca cria born along the footpath

12 May 2008

The 2008 birth total is now up at five, with boys beating girls three to two. Last week we had Anduin and Dimril from Arctic and Snowdust- both cria of Accoyo stud male Tolkein. Anduin is a little male and Dimril a female have been named after things from Lord of the Rings. Anduin is a river and Dimril a place. Our Accoyo herd have taken on the theme of the father, so all Tolkein cria will be named after JRR Tolkein's masterpiece The Lord of the Rings.

On Sunday Rosemary produced a Cornelius son who has been named Rotlana. Continuing our long-established theme of naming white animals along an unimaginative 'snow theme'. In a bid to move away from the endless list of animals bearing 'snow-----' names e.g snowfall, snowman, snowdrop, snowpetal, we have now started using Inuit words for snow. Rotlana translates as 'quickly accumulating snow' and joins a handful of other Inuit names.

If you haven't made it down to Toft yet to see the cria then why not make the most of glorious weather and take a walk down the footpaths to meet the whole herd and these latest additions. Alternately you can wait to come and visit on the 7th June for our 'Family Fun Day' where guided walks will be offered every hour form the Toft Alpaca Shop FREE of charge. On this day 10% of all sales made in the shop will go back to charity Practical Action, who will also be present representing their South American projects.
