Toft Alpacas Downunder. Austrailan Alpaca Herd
22 April 2008
On my travels across Oz for the conference i found time to nip across to New Zealand to have a look at the Toft international herd kept in Christchurch.
Here we keep a small selection of fawn animals waiting for import, or breeding over there to produce offspring that will enter the UK. As you can see these animals have been partially sheared leaving 'wings' on their backs. This is for screening purposes so that the fleece can be correctly tested. The animals are not left in full fleece in these circumstances in order to
avoid over-heating in the hot summers.
