FREE KNITTING PATTERNS

FREE Toft Basic Teddy Pattern

This Ted is a very basic design aimed for beginners.

Once you have knitted and customised your Toft Teddy Bear, send us a photo and a little description in to us by e-mail or post. All of these knitted alpaca teddy bear images will be shown on our website and will be entered into the competition which will run until 1st December 2010. The creator of the winning alpaca teddy will spend a weekend of their choice in Toft Manor Cottage: our luxury two double-bedroomed self-catering cottage on the farm. The opportunity to meet the herd of 200 alpacas and spend a relaxing break in the Warwickshire countryside- be as involved in the farm as you choose...

Why not have a look on our 'media' pages and see some of the teddies that have been knitted with this knitting kit so far...

5mm Needles

Arms: Knit two
Cast on 20sts and knit 34 rows.
Cast off.

Making Up:
Fold the body in half.
Sew the back seam from the cast on edge to the row where you placed leg marker.

Refold the body so that the seam you just sewed runs down the centre of the back.
Sew the inside leg and foot seams.

Stuff your teddy (keeping small amount of stuffing for the arms).
Sew the top of the head closed, rounding the corners very slightly.

Sew diagonally across the corners of your teddy's head so that the corner points form ears.
Here you can start to customise your Teddy by altering the size and prominence of the ears:
if you want your ears to stand out, gather around the bottom of each ear and pull slightly.

Gather the row where you placed the neck marker.

Fold the arm pieces in half and sew the side and one end closed.
Stuff arms, and then sew the remaining side closed.

Sew the arms to the body, just below the neck, taking care to ensure that the seam is facing downwards.

Personalising your Teddy

Sew on your teddy's eyes (buttons). If you are knitting this teddy for very young child it is advisable
to use your contrast yarn to sew the eyes on (crosses or dots).

Sew on a nose or mouth (if wanted).

To knit a scarf/headband
Cast on 50-70 sts.
Knit 4 rows.
Cast off.
