You might have noticed our brand new collection of Edward's Menagerie booties available online and in the TOFT Studio over the bank holiday weekend a couple of weeks ago. These are worked in a slightly different way to Kerry Lord's popular #edsanimals patterns, including one section where you work backwards and forwards in rows, turning the work. For this section, we have introduced an optional new technique for the perfectionists out there to create 'invisible rows' and avoid the texture that appears when double crocheting in rows, rather than rounds.

As this is a new technique that will be unfamiliar to a lot of our Edward's Menagerie fans out there, Kerry is in the process of recording a video tutorial to help you achieve that perfect finish. In the meantime, we've put together a photo tutorial that should help to explain the method. As always, if you're having difficulty with any of your patterns, you can email us at [email protected] and we'll be more than happy to help.

STEP 1

Turn, working on WS of work

STEP 2

Insert hook into back of st towards you, under working yarn

STEP 3

Yarn over

STEP 4

Pull through (2 loops on hook)

STEP 5

Twist last loop on hook clockwise by moving
hook between loops

STEP 6

Yarn over

STEP 7

Pull through both loops on hook to complete double crochet

STEP 8

Repeat steps 2-7 until your row is complete,
turn and marvel at the perfect texture!

We hope this helps you to complete your booties if you have decided to have a go at invisible rows. Please note that this is an optional technique – the booties look great if you stick to your trusty double crochet stitch on these rows too.
