Alpacas at the Newark and Notts County Show

14 May 2008

Last weekend Toft travelled on-mass up to Newark to represent alpacas at the Newark and Notts County Show. Ordinarily this would be one of the largest displays of alpacas in the UK, Newark being host to the British Alpaca Society National Show.

This year the risk of spreading Blue Tongue has prevented the National Alpaca Show taking place, and we can only hope that following majority vaccination that 2009 will see the return of the UK National Show.

Despite the cancellation of the National, the Toft Trailer was set up on Friday for a weekend of sunny sales. We also took up four little boys, for the public to see Suri alpacas and our prize-winning brown huacayas. At Newark we had Scallop and Clam, and Watto and Cerasi, proudly representing the Toft herd. It was a scorching hot weekend, and the animals were very well behaved while surrounded by swarms of people enjoying meeting alpacas for the first time.

Selling alpaca knitwear is challenging under windless 26ยบ conditions- I don't blame people for having their sights on ice-cream! We had a fantastic reaction to our Toft Knitting Kits again, and can't wait to see all the finished Teddy Bear photos flood in.

This weekend we are pleased to be attending the Moreton Morrell agricultural college open day. This is usually a great day for the whole family with craft stalls and country pursuits, along with a great display of animals. Toft Alpacas will be taking a few animals, and the Toft Shop Trailer will be selling the whole range of luxury alpaca products. Come along and see us!
